About the Event:
Join ADSNY and the Beaux Arts Alliance for this illustrated lecture, by David Gerrard Lowe, exploring the luxurious Art Deco and Moderne style of London.
The term Art Deco usually conjures images of Paris and New York, but in the 1920s and 1930s, London gave birth to some of the most extraordinary Art Deco structures in the world.
In his presentation, Lowe will offer a delightful glimpse the chic and exciting period in London, when people voyaged on the Queen Mary to England and checked into Claridge’s or the moderne masterpiece, the Savoy. Lowe will show images of the massive BBC Broadcasting House and its stunning sculpture by Eric Gill as well as the jazzy Express building with its black glass façade. The presentation will also include images of the New Victoria cinema where, on the silver screen, Jessie Matthews once sang and danced her way into the public’s heart and much more.
Reception to follow.
