Valentine Soirée

Valentine Soirée

When: Wednesday, February 7, from 6:15 to 9:00 p.m.

Where: One Hundred Barclay
Where: 100 Barclay Street, New York, NY 10007

About the Event:

Hosted in the stunning, brand-new penthouse residence that crowns Ralph Walker’s landmarked One Hundred Barclay, this year’s annual Valentine Soirée will be a truly once-in-a-lifetime experience.

With the Manhattan skyline glittering beyond the 21-foot arched windows of this unique, glamorous setting, ADSNY members and their guests will step back in time to an age of style, jazz, and opulence. We will enjoy cocktails and hors d’oeuvres in what just might be New York’s largest living room, The Penthouse at One Hundred Barclay, as it transforms into an elegant ballroom. Best-in-class dancers will showcase premier examples of dances from the 1920s and 30s––the tango, Peabody, Charleston, rumba, foxtrot, and more. They will even throw in a dash of Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers for an added indulgence.

John Campbell, a U.S. Smooth champion, and Lina Mambella, an Italian Ballroom finalist, will demonstrate their skill with the Charleston and Peabody, largely considered the quintessential dances of the 1920s, when they take to the floor in this fast-paced, rhythmical performance. In keeping with the energetic dances of the era, former World Ballroom Formation Champions Charlie and Emily Roberts will wow us with their spirited Lindy Hop.

Bringing to life the passion of tango from the 1920s, Michael Nadotchi and Serena Cerene, experts who have traveled the globe performing and teaching the skill of the Argentine Tango, will mesmerize us with their fancy footwork and sultry moves. Showcasing one of the first close hold ballroom dances of the period, Giovanni D’Arpino and Francesca Vari, Italian Latin finalists, will demonstrate the sensuous rumba.

In a spectacular recreation of Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers’s beloved “Cheek to Cheek” foxtrot from the movie Top Hat, Steven Dougherty and Eulia Baranovsky––the former World Smooth Showdance Champions who have been featured on PBS’s America’s Ballroom Challenge––will capture the essence of the period and the legendary style of Astaire and Rogers.

This memorable evening will culminate with all of the dancers taking part in a thrilling grand finale, featuring the lively quickstep and swirling Viennese Waltz.

For those of us who are not acquainted with the Ballroom world, Justin Homkow, avid social ballroom dancer and ADSNY Board Member, will give a brief account of how each dance style reflects, and carries on, the spirit of the Jazz Age.

Whether you come solo or with your loved one, this will be a very special, exclusive event for a limited few, in a not-to-be-missed Art Deco setting. Learn more about One Hundred Barclay here or register for the event below.

In addition to the special performances, the evening will also include a raffle with two prizes: an original oil painting created by artist and professional dancer Eulia Baranovsky or a ballroom lesson in the dance style of your choosing.

In this painting of a ballroom dance couple, the artist captures the energy that the subjects feel in the moment. Baranovsky chose a sophisticated palette of burnt umber and titanium white using impressionistic brushwork to create the slightly unfinished technique that conveys a sense of movement.

The private dance lesson will be a 45 minute session in the dance style of the winner’s choosing with one of the professional dancers performing this evening.

Each prize will have a separate drawing at the event but you don’t have to be present to participate in the raffle. Individual raffle tickets can be purchased below for $20.00 each or three tickets for $50.00. Each event ticket also includes at least one ticket to the raffle.
